There has been a lot of discussion going around lately about whether or not Beast Mastery is raid viable. I levelled my hunter as BM and dual-specced to Survival once I hit Northrend and started doing dungeons there. I would level with my bear as BM and run dungeons as SV with my wolf. Currently, I am specced as SV and have recently respecced from BM to Marksman to play with it and see if I can see a difference. I have a lot of practicing before I see better numbers with MM then I currently get with SV.
Instead of completely throwing my hat into the middle of this discussion, I am simply going to cheat (or be lazy) and link to what I think is the best response yet. The Hunters Mark has posted an brilliant response with the conclusion that ultimately it is up to the player. If you are a hardcore raider, then no, BM is not viable as you are letting your raid group down and not living up to your potential. However, if you are a casual player, then by all means, go BM.
I completely agree with this. I think anyone who is raiding in even a semi-serious manner is required to be specced as either SV (at the minimum) or MM (preferably).
On a side note, if you are levelling a Hunter, I definitely encourage doing BM as it is the easiest, faster method of levelling.
